The widespread use of Turnitin is breeding a culture of “mistrust and anxiety” among students with a new study raising doubts about its effectiveness as a learning tool.

The report, “A literacy approach to using Turnitin”, by ANU’s Academic Skills and Learning Centre, says the use of the online assignment program solely as a “plagiarism detection tool” is not helping to improve the academic writing of students.
